Session Description: Adolescents who use alcohol or drugs (AOD) have increased risk for a constellation of problems as well as developing chronic patterns of use. This interactive presentation aims to equip Pediatric RNs with knowledge on the scope of adolescent AOD use and equip them with strategies for prevention, identification, and addressing AOD use in clinical settings.
Primary Presenter Bio: Dr. Nash is a seasoned educator and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with dual board certification in Pediatric Primary Care and Pediatric Mental/Behavioral Health. An Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Dr. Nash is passionate about training clinicians to provide high quality care to patients with alcohol or drug-related problems. Her areas of expertise include population health, pediatric mental-behavioral health, addressing substance use in clinical settings, prenatal exposure to alcohol and drugs, and curriculum design. Her research focuses on reducing stigma and promoting recovery for adolescents with substance use disorders. Dr. Nash has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and spoken to a wide variety of local, regional, and national audiences. She is delighted to speak to you today on adolescent substance use and abuse.
