 After careful consideration of the current health situation, SPN has made the tough decision to cancel the in-person 30th Annual Conference, April 22-25, and offer virtual education opportunities in its place. Here, we’re answering your most pressing questions about this change. If you have a question that is not answered below, please contact SPN Headquarters.

 

Why did you wait until now to cancel?

SPN leadership has been monitoring the situation and recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The Board of Directors recognized that the developments around COVID-19 were changing significantly each day and the consequences of potentially displacing pediatric nurses during this critical time would cause an adverse event. SPN does not take this unprecedented decision lightly. SPN and our members are committed to providing workplace environments that will be healthy and safe, and with this in mind, the most responsible path forward for our members to fulfill that mission was to cancel this year’s in-person event.

 

When will we learn more about the virtual component?

SPN will be offering aspects of the conference as a virtual (online) opportunity. The virtual offering will provide a large number of contact hours. We expect this learning opportunity to launch in early summer and be available throughout the year.

 

 

Will paid attendee registrations be refunded?

SPN will be offering attendees three options for their conference registration fees. In order to receive a refund you must complete a short online form which will be available in the coming weeks. All attendees will receive an email with this form to select your preferred options.

Options available for you to choose from:

  • Transfer your registration fee to the 2021 Annual Conference at a locked rate
  • Issue a full refund*

*If we do not hear from you, you will be automatically refunded in the same format you paid (check/credit card)

Please take into consideration if your registration fee was funded by your employer that you check with them on how to return funds. 

 

When is the 2021 Annual Conference?

The 2021 Annual Conference will take place April 14-17, 2021 in Pittsburgh, PA.

 

Will speakers and poster presenters have the opportunity to still present their information?

Current speakers will be offered the opportunity to present as part of the virtual education option. All speakers will receive a separate communication. 

 

Will exhibitors be refunded for booth space?

An official email regarding cancellation of our exhibit hall and event will be sent out on Monday, March, 23, 2020 to the primary contact listed on your exhibit application.  In that communication we will address next steps with your annual conference investment and ways your organization may still connect with our members.

 

What is the situation with hotels if I booked through the SPN conference hotel website/room blocks?

If you haven’t already, you can expect to receive an email from Disney notifying you of an automatic cancellation. 

 

Why did I already receive a hotel cancellation?

SPN Annual Conference was cancelled on Friday, March 20 and with that cancellation, you received an automatic cancellation email from Disney. Please contact Disney specifically with questions about your room reservation.

Can you help with Disney Tickets?

Attendees who purchased Disney Tickets should contact Disney directly at (714) 520-7053 during the following times: Mon – Fri, 8:30am – 5:00pm PDT.

 

Will attendees and exhibitors be refunded for airline tickets?

SPN is not responsible for reimbursement of airfare. Please contact your airline to see refund and credit options.

 

I was an award recipient; will I still receive my award?

All award recipients will be announced during the SPN Annual Business meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at 12:30 p.m. CT.

 

How will the conference cancellation impact SPN?

SPN did not make this decision lightly. Over the coming months, SPN has many steps to take, including determining and analyzing the financial impact of this drastic, but necessary cancellation of our annual event. While we recognize our decision to cancel as the right one, the association’s contracts with many vendors and host hotels require that we work in coordination with our legal counsel and insurance provider to make every effort to ensure the best possible outcome for our organization. We will provide additional communication to the members as it relates to impact of the future, should it be necessary. We ask for your patience as we work through the process.
