November 2022 President's Letter

Greetings SPN Members!

PEDIATRIC NURSES WEEK

Thank you to everyone who participated in the social media contest using the hashtag #ProudPediatricNurse. The many posts about ways your teams celebrated Pediatric Nurses Week made me proud to be a pediatric nurse. Congratulations to the team from Children’s Hospital San Antonio who was named the 2022 Pediatric Nurses Week social media contest winner! Also, thank you to our management team – Kim Eskew, Carrie Wall, Jason Carter, Pine Gonzalez, and Jennifer Aron for helping with the Pediatric Nurses Week celebration by sharing their videos of the Top 5 Reasons Pediatric Nurses are the best.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS UPDATE

The Board of Directors biannual in-person meeting was held October 21-22. Our time together was extremely productive, and I was continually reminded of the depth of knowledge and expertise of our Board and SPN staff members. Our discussions were rich and included diverse perspectives and decisions that incorporated member needs assessment feedback. During our two-day meeting, the Board approved the 2023 budget and 2023-2025 strategic plan.

2023 Budget

The Board took great care to develop the 2023 budget and aligned planned expenses with strategic plan efforts to plan for future growth to fulfill our mission.

  • Expanded the Director of Programs effort to support the development and application of additional education content, including topics on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), the creation of animated online educational videos, and interactive education and networking sessions.
  • Planned expansion of SPN’s social media presence to include Instagram.
  • Operational plan to develop a pediatric unit nursing excellence program.
  • Review and revision of Pediatric Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice with the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP).

2023-2025 Strategic Plan

The development of the 2023-2025 Strategic Plan began 12 months ago and was designed to build upon the current work being done by SPN and incorporate member needs and new opportunities to ensure SPN’s future growth and success. The following is a summary of the 2023-2025 Strategic Plan goals and objectives:

Strategic Goal 1

Drive and elevate career growth of the pediatric nurse

Strategic Goal 2

Generate visibility for SPN within the pediatric nursing specialty

Strategic Goal 3

Increase the number of practicing pediatric nurses practicing?

In next month’s article, we’ll share the finalized strategic plan elements that will support the achievement of the strategic goals listed above.

CLOSING REMARKS
