Purpose

The purpose of this grant is to support research studies and evidence-based practice projects (EBP) related to children and their families. These grants are awarded to SPN members, and may include research studies or EBP projects ranging from pilot work to large, multisite studies. Student theses, dissertations, or EBP project proposals are accepted. The proposed study or EBP project will be completed within a one-year period upon receipt of the grant funds. 

Overview of Process

Submit a letter of intent by October 1, 2022 at 5:00 pm CST including the title of proposed project, investigator name(s), institution name(s) and a brief overview of the project (click here for the form). The application and all supporting materials will be due in December, 2022. Send submissions electronically to: [email protected]. Complete applications will be assigned to a review panel of either research or EBP experts, depending on the type of application. Applicants and awardees will be notified in March, 2023Awards will be announced at the SPN Annual Conference in April.

Awardee Expectations

SPN grant awardees are expected to:

  1. Receive their award at the Annual Conference.
  2. Submit a progress report every 6 months to the SPN national office.
  3. Disseminate results of the completed projects to the SPN membership (e.g., annual conference, newsletter, journal, etc.).
  4. Acknowledge SPN support in reports and presentations resulting from the project or study.

Amount and Timing of Grant Funding

Typically SPN awards (1) EBP grant, historically $2,500, and one (1) $5,000 research grant annually. The research grant can be split into (2) $2,500 or in (1) $5,000 grant. If you are conducting a large study or project and wish to use the SPN grant to supplement other funding, please specify in the budget justification the aspects of the study or project SPN funds will support. Funds will be provided at the start of the grant period (upon receipt of signed agreement and required documents).

Selection Criteria

Research studies or EBP projects must be designed to enhance the care of children and their families. The project’s principal investigator/project leader must be a licensed registered nurse (provide license number at time of application) and a SPN member at the time of application.
