BENFITS OF SPN MEMBERSHIP
In April 2022, SPN shared our intent in providing the membership with tools and resources to mobilize the pediatric nurses’ voice on the state level. SPN believes that protecting, advocating for, and ensuring children’s welfare is a priority to SPN and our membership. Policy initiatives that curtail or limit access to healthcare contradicts a core tenant of the healthcare provider mission. It also directly conflicts with pediatric nurses’ mission to advocate for, and protect, their patients’ rights.

Purpose
Greetings SPN Members!
There have been a number of healthcare related topics in the news this past month that have particular impact to pediatric health. The two topics I have chosen to address are particularly important for our members and are areas where pediatric nurses can make a significant impact.
Greetings SPN Members!
As I write this this month’s letter, I am deeply troubled by the recent tragic events that impact our profession and our nation. This past month, we saw a nurse convicted for criminally negligent homicide for a medication error that resulted in the death of her patient. Our communities were shattered by mass murders and hate crimes. My hope is that individually and as a profession, we can reflect on these events and move forward with greater clarity and confidence around our practice and with actions to create safer communities and improved mental health for children.
SPN held our 2022 Annual Business meeting on Monday, April 18, 2022. This meeting provided an opportunity for members to learn about all that SPN had accomplished over the past year, including a full business summary featuring membership and financial reports.
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month – a celebration of the generations of people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent who have enriched America’s history and are instrumental in its future success. The observance started as a weeklong celebration in 1978, then in 1992, Congress passed a law that designated the whole month of May as AAPI Heritage Month. SPN celebrates the contributions that Asian American and Pacific Islander members have made to the field of pediatric nursing
Greetings SPN!
I am excited to greet you as your new SPN President and to wish you a Happy Nurses Month! I feel so blessed to be part of this amazing profession and to be surrounded by so many who share the same desire to provide the best nursing care to children and their families. Thank you for the extraordinary work that you do every day. These past 2 years have challenged our profession more than in years past, and I commend you for your commitment and contributions. I hope you take time during Nurses Month to celebrate and recognize those who lead and innovate, as well as those who mentor and encourage you. Also, please make yourself a priority and focus on self-care to maintain your physical and mental wellbeing so you can be your best at home and at work.
